The studentsat Urquhart Park Primary School are so soccer-mad they intend to put a mini all-weather pitch in the yard of their school.

And when they heard the Matildas were coming to play a match just down the road from the school, they saw an opportunity to get their heroes to pop in and say hello. They are so keen that each student –all 350 of them –has written a letter to David Gallop, the CEO of the Football Federation of Australia and the Matildas, inviting them to come to the school.

The Matildas will be in town on June 4th fora match against New Zealand’s Football Fernsat Morshead Park Stadium here in Ballarat –just around the corner from the school.

Teacher Karla Devlin says the students are incredibly excited.

“We have lots of kids who play in the BDSA, but we have a lot who don’t, so we are trying to promote soccer at the school,” she says.

“We’re getting as synthetic pitch in the next two weeks so they can play soccer all year around.Because they enjoy it so much, it’s really growing.”

For Urquhart Park student Lucy, getting the Matildas to Ballarat is a great thrill.

“I love the soccer team,” she says, “because they have a lot of colours on their shirts.

And who would she like to meet the most of the Matildas?

“I would like to meet the one that has the number 1 on her shirt.”
