Storm on the rise as Giants hold fast

THESouthern Mallee Giants toppled Jeparit-Rainbow by12 goals, 43-31 in a tight Horsham District Football Netball Leagueround six clash.

Storm coach Joanne Hiscock said her side played its best game of the season.

“Even though we lost the girls see this as a win,” she said.

“They now know they can be competitive against a top side, we are building in confidence.”

The Storm made someexperimental changes to theside, giving players a run in different positions.

Hiscock’s decision to bring club newcomerBreanna Eastick up from B Grade also paid off.

“We are a whole new side which isstill getting used to each other,” Hiscock said.

“I was justexcited with how well we were playing, we are starting to really gel.”

Hiscock credited her side for its passing and pressure, especially at the attacking end of the court.

“Every girl played a good game,” she said.

“Themid-court positional changes really opened it right up.

“Our wing defence Alex Hewitt got in everyone’s road, putting pressure on the opposition and giving us plenty of drive through the mid-court.”

Hiscock commended the Giants goal defence Courtney Williams for hersolid performance, challenging the Storm in the ring.
