Parkes ladies impress at Western Districts tournament

Parkes’ Division 3/4 winning team, from left – Dawn Wakefield, Kasey Fay-Rice (Division 4 scratch winner) and Leone Stevenson (Division 3 scratch winner). subThe Western Districts Ladies Golf Association held their annual tournament at a wet and windy Parkes Golf course last week with more than 180 women from as far away as Moss Vale, Goulburn and Sydney competing in four divisions.

The major scratch winners were as follows:

Division 1 – Susan Fenwick (Duntryleague); Division 2 – Marg Nicholson (Dubbo); Division 3 – Leone Stevenson (Parkes); Division 4 – Kasey Fay-Rice (Parkes).

Another notable Parkes performance was Chris Stait (runner-up Eunice Bishop Bowl, Division 4.

Open Teams Handicap Division 1 winners – Lynne Guise, Kaye Jones and Cherrie Phillips (Parkes); WDLGA Team Division 3 and 4 winners – Leone Stevenson, Dawn Wakefield and Kasey Fay-Rice (Parkes).

Daily winners included Margaret Hogan, Lorraine Maxwell, Dale Matthews, Lynne Guise, Cherrie Phillips, Kaye Jones, Dawn Wakefield, Chris Stait, Liz Matthews and Sue Holman.

Local nearest the pin winners on Tuesday and Wednesday were Colleen Staples, Kasey Fay-Rice and Sue Holman.

WDLGA Open foursomes was played Thursday with Dale Matthews (Parkes) and sister Vicki Sargent (Sydney) runners-up.

The Parkes ladies received very positive feedback for the event.

As well as all the lady members whohelped, the ladies would like to thank Paul Thomas, Wayne Parker, Dub Rogers, Phil Bishop and David Stevenson.

After a big week of golf, 12 women still made it to play in terrific conditions for Saturday’s Stableford event sponsored by Leone Stevenson.

Amy Walker was the winner with 39 points, improving every time she plays.

Close behind was Leone Stevenson on 35 with Kaye Jones and Cherrie Phillips next on 33 each.

Nearest the pins were Cherrie Phillips (1st), Judy McCabe (4th), Leone Stevenson (6th), Kaye Jones (11th), and Colleen Flynn (15th).

Anne Goodie Award went to Anne Berkley.

This Wednesday the ladies will play a Par event sponsored by Glynis Conroy.

Saturday’s event is the very popular 18 hole four ball aggregate Stableford sponsored by Parkes Cellars.

There is an individual event in conjunction.

It is also the first qualifying round of Handiskins.
