Pairs Championships

The finals of the ‘A’ and ‘C’ grade pairs championships were played last Saturday.

In ‘A’ grade defending champions, and winners for the last three years, Nev Connor and Gerard Beath played Shane Lauritzen and Alan Messiter.

Nev and Gerard had a great start with a four and then a three on the first two ends but at the conclusion of the eighth ends Shane and Alan had hit the lead at 9-8.

The scores were level two ends later at 11 all and again after 14 ends at 13 all and with three ends to play Nev and Gerard again had their nose in front at 17-16.

Four shots on the nineteenth end and two shots on the next saw Shane and Alan five in front with one end to play and when Nev and Gerard could only pick up a two we have new champions with Shane and Alan winning 22-19.

The ‘C’ grade final was between John Bush and Alan Vorias against Greg Nicholls and Julian Petty – with this being the first game that Alan had to play in this competition.

Greg and Julian started well to lead 10-4 after seven ends but the match then became very tight and after 15 ends they were level at 13 all.

With one end to play John and Alan led by one shot and when they picked up another singles on the last they were the 2016 champions, winning a great match 19-17.

Listed Matches

There will be no matches listed for the next few weeks.

The final is conditional on no bowlers also being involved in the Western Division Grade 1 pennant play-offs.

The Mixed Pairs Championship will now be played during July.
