Golfing young gun Schmidt continues to impress

The 18-year-oldquicklytookan early five-shot lead ahead of fellow golfer JoshDossett during the finals on Sunday.

Schmidt continued his good form to extend his lead to eightshots over RodGillin.

However it had all changed bythe eighth hole, as Gillin had managed to make up the deficit.

Gillin and Schmidt sat equal as they approachedthe ninth tee.

Schmidt stood strong on the ninth and put himself two shots clear of his rival.

Gillin hit two shots within eight feet of the hole, while Schmidtchipped in from about four feet.

At the final hole, Gillin was the first to put and made birdie.Schmidt faced atricky four-foot putt across a slope, but was good enough to get the win.

Horsham Golf Club captain David Dickinson said Schmidt handled the shot calmly.

“He was under a lot of pressure for that one shot,but he remained poised,” he said.

“It’s a wonderful victory considering he’d given up that eight-shot lead.”

Larry Friend won the B Grade title after a sudden death play-off.KeithThistlethwaite won the C Grade title, whileDickinson took home the intermediate title.
