Under 12’s

FOR the first time in about six years, the Under 12 Crookwell Pups hit the field with a full team of 15, and were eventual winners 17-15.

The game started at a ferocious pace, with both teams going hammer and tongs at each other.

The Pups started to pressure the Reds line, and with a step usually seen in a Rugby Sevens match, Jack Searl wove his way through the pack and sped away to score under the sticks.

The Reds hit back with a five pointer quickly after. This fired up the Pups forwards, who started to fight their way up through the middle. With the front row of Kyle Croke, Emmy Page and Jay Cunningham making good yards, they were backed up well by the rest of the forward pack, Charlie Hayes, Josh Thorn, Tyson Allwright, Sam McRae and Angus Smith. They all worked hard, making good ground on the Reds’ forwards and Jack Searl sped away to score in the corner.

A bit of sloppy play let the Reds score again, which got the Pups back on track.

A couple of positional changes at half time spurred the Pups to use the backs more. They started to push the ball wide and put pressure on the Reds. Sam Minehan, Logan Croke, Matty Seaman and James Seaman all had great games and new comer to Rugby, Lachlan Vallander, had an absolute blinder for a young fella that’s never played footy before.

After Jack Searl got his hat trick the Reds really started to put pressure on the Pups’ line, trying hard to score. James Seaman made a massive try saving tackle that would make a Wallaby jealous.

Unfortunately the constant pressure would eventually land the Reds a third try on the fulltime buzzer with a conversion needed to tie up the score. It was waved away and the Pups were victorious 17-15.

Both teams played very well, and considering the Pups have only trained once so far, they should have a very successful season.

Other Pup’s reports

Under 6’s

Another stunning performance by the Under 6 Crookwell pups, with lots of passing the ball, lots of two-handed touches (as it’s not tackle) and plenty of great tackles (even though it’s supposed to be touch!)

Jonah Allwright and Andrew Lawson once again had the speed for the team. Peter Lawson has a great knack for offloading great passes. Harry Price is showing some great ball skills and the only little lady of the team, Gabby Price, is showing the boys how it’s done.

The little team will only continue to improve as the season progresses under the expert guidance of coach Sam Price.

Under 8’s

Emma Seaman is playing very well for her Goulburn team and the two boys Alex Anderson and Will Fraser are fitting in well with the Gunning Under 8’s and are really starting to get the hang of playing rugby.

Under 10’s

The four Under 10’s Pups boys, Jeffrey Fraser, Ben McCormack, Jack and Archie Pursell, continue to gel in their Goulburn team under coach Mick Dalgleish. By all reports all boys are having a ball and will continue to get better.
